Publication of the Pentagon Papers
On June 13, 1971, The New York Times published its first installment of the Pentagon Papers. The decision was not easy. There was a debate whether it had the right to publish.
Once the story was written, America split into two sides. On one side, Daniel Ellsberg was a hero for leaking the documents, exposing government deceit and protesting an unpopular war. On the other side, he was a traitor who betrayed his country and a criminal who leaked classified information. |
